A Brief History of My Photography

January 24th, 2012

I can remember as a child seeing ‘grown ups’ taking photos and I was always baffled that a person could be so engaged in recording something that they could see right in front of them. It took years for any sort of interest to cultivate within me. I was 17 before I got my first camera. A small, red, five megapixel point-and-shoot that I saved up for months to purchase. I can remember it got lost in the mail and took well over a month to get shipped to me, much to my frustration. I played around with that beast for years, never realizing how limiting it really was. Since then I have dabbled with a variety of cameras, both film and digital, but none have suited me better than my current Canon 550D. The 550D has allowed my photographic creativity to blossom and for that I am grateful.

I currently have 27,411 photos on my hard drive.  Last Sunday I took this picture. For the first time since I first picked up a camera, I finally feel that I have created something I deem  art.

Swinging Into Action

December 15th, 2011

Nothing quite beats a photo-tastic walk on a sunny autumn evening. Oh wait, the one thing that could be better is finding swings on aforementioned walk. Hot crackers!

Christmas Should Be Spent With Your Family

December 3rd, 2011

About a week ago, a group of us decided to put up some Christmas decorations. As we are all gluttons, we decided to make the evening into a potluck so that we could feast amidst our decorations. And lastly, for some good knee-slappin’ fun, we decided to dress up as 1950′s nuclear family. Here is Bonnie Heptonstall, the grandmother.Ah heck, here’s the whole family.

Mixing Flower

November 30th, 2011

Wowzers! Look at this audio mixer that my (now) cousin in law was playing with at his wedding reception.
And heck, have a photo of some delightful flowers present at the ceremony.

Rushobbin Hood

November 2nd, 2011

Unless you are all entirely unfamiliar with the concept of FUN, you likely know that Halloween has just passed. Most of the costumes I was delighted to observe I was without my camera for and thus have not photos to show. However, I did snap a few of my amigos such as my buddy Rushav dressed as the legendary Robin Hood.Oh why not. Here’s another picture of this magnificent example of Halloween epicness.

I’m Back

October 26th, 2011

I just realized I have been totally spacing on anything resembling posting on 390nm. I apologize for the few of you who actually are regularly checking this site and promise to be more vigilant in the future. Anywho, I have nowhere near gone through the 5000+ photos from my recent trip to Peru but after a brief scan here are a few that I hope you find neat.

First up is this wacky scale that was sitting in an old warehouse that fishermen had recommissioned to slaughter fish in. One may ask, “Are there sanitation issues here? This scale looks like it hasn’t been washed since the mid 1970′s.” You would give the answer “Shut up.” as nobody cares  in Peru. Now here is a delightfully spooky church in the city of Cuzco, which incidentally is the oldest city in South America.I have never really been able to properly distinguish between Llamas and Alpacas. I’m pretty sure that Llamas are substantially larger but other than that I have no clue. Since I do not have a size reference in this photo I am just going to assume that these delightful fellows are Llamas but I could be wrong. If I am, then I guess I’ll have to retire from the competitive sport of Llama spotting. And as a special bonus, here is a photo of my dad hanging out with a monkey.

You May Never Read This

October 16th, 2011

I believe I should have just arrived back from Peru yesterday, so instead of this you may be looking at some hilarious photos of Alpacas or something. However there is a decent chance I will be too busy to deal with photos so soon and thus here is another shot from Sarah Kourey’s Mad Men photoshoot.
