I’ll never get tired of black and white film. I know it makes me sound pretentious but I don’t even care. It is the best.

A Brief History of My Photography
I can remember as a child seeing ‘grown ups’ taking photos and I was always baffled that a person could be so engaged in recording something that they could see right in front of them. It took years for any sort of interest to cultivate within me. I was 17 before I got my first camera. A small, red, five megapixel point-and-shoot that I saved up for months to purchase. I can remember it got lost in the mail and took well over a month to get shipped to me, much to my frustration. I played around with that beast for years, never realizing how limiting it really was. Since then I have dabbled with a variety of cameras, both film and digital, but none have suited me better than my current Canon 550D. The 550D has allowed my photographic creativity to blossom and for that I am grateful.
I currently have 27,411 photos on my hard drive. Last Sunday I took this picture. For the first time since I first picked up a camera, I finally feel that I have created something I deem art.

Up and Runnin’
By the chariot of Apollo, I have had some difficulty getting my photo organization software working. I finally have it back up and running and no longer will have to rely on posting mediocre photos that I had sitting around in various places online. No, now I can get back to good stuff. For example the delight below. This is the always lovely Heather Stevens, lit by the on camera (*gasp*) flash which I bounced off a nearby wall using a run-of-the-mill envelope. Likely one of my favorite pictures I’ve shot in the past while.

Rushobbin Hood
Unless you are all entirely unfamiliar with the concept of FUN, you likely know that Halloween has just passed. Most of the costumes I was delighted to observe I was without my camera for and thus have not photos to show. However, I did snap a few of my amigos such as my buddy Rushav dressed as the legendary Robin Hood.
Oh why not. Here’s another picture of this magnificent example of Halloween epicness.

Revel in his Curls
This is Steve Johnson in one of the very first pictures I took with the first softbox I ever made. I think the shadows are interesting.

Coworkers
I am currently employed by the Federal Government of Canada. There are a handful of awesome people that I work with. Pictured is two of them – Kaila and Jennie.

Gettin’ all Political up in Here
Oh hey look, it’s my good friend Kara Johancsik. Kara is a huge advocate of the democratic process and I’d be willing to bet that she agrees with me when I tell all you young Canadians reading this to VOTE. If you’re not sure who to vote for, the CBC has come up with this nifty little device to aid you in your decision making process. Do it. It’s important.

Lookin’ Good Heather
There are certain times when I get lucky enough to get someone in front of my lens that looks as fantastic as Heather Stevens. Being allowed a few minutes for a photoshoot got me a few shots that I really dig, including the one below. There is nothing about this photo that I don’t love, from the very soft lighting and her expression to the catch lights in her eyes.

Ryan on Film
Even though there are a few white speckles all over this photo from some flecks of dust on the negatives, I really dig what film looks like.
In other news, I noticed that today the 100th comment was posted on 390. Too bad like 40% of it was spam. Oh well, I’m still excited.
